OLDER INFORMATION

10-17-2019:  Topsoil placement throughout the project is complete and the contractor is prepping and grooming the topsoil for sod.  The red brick concrete median on Hunt Club Road has started and will be complete in a few days.  Final striping on Grand Avenue is complete; soon the new pavement reflectors will be installed.  The project is nearing completion, but daily lane closures will continue.  Please use caution as it is still a work zone and the safety of the workers is of utmost importance.
10-11-2019:  Paving on Grand Avenue is finally complete and final striping has begun.  On Hunt Club Road, asphalt leveling binder is complete and final surface paving has begun.  Brick pavers were installed on the south Hunt Club Road median and landscape plantings are next.  The coming weeks include topsoil and sod along the entire project, completion of the Hunt Club Road medians and final striping on Hunt Club Road.  The new pavement markings will be recessed into the pavement surface; this helps prevent wear and tear and damage from snowplows.  The project is currently on schedule to meet the early November completion date.  Thank you for your patience and please continue to use caution driving through the construction zone as lane closures will continue for the next few weeks.
10-02-2019:  Recent weather has hampered the completion of the asphalt paving on Grand Avenue; however, work on other items was not as affected. Underground electrical work has continued; crews are feeding all the wires/cables to the new lighting and traffic signal foundations as well as cutting in all the new traffic signal detector loops on Grand Avenue.  These loops detect when a vehicle is in a left turn lane or thru lane; they are essential to how signal timing will work at these intersections when the project is complete.  Topsoil placement has also progressed along with the completion of all the curb work on the Hunt Club Road medians.  Coming weeks will include asphalt paving on Hunt Club Road, completion of all the new sidewalk and completion of the red brick concrete in the Hunt Club landscaped medians.

09-23-2019:  Crews completed asphalt leveling binder on both roads and are now focusing on final asphalt installation.  Electrical work and topsoil placement continue outside the roadway behind the curb.  At the south end of Hunt Club Road, crews began landscaping in the median which will include brick pavers, perennial plantings and trees.  We understand the daily lane closures cause traffic delays; we truly appreciate your patience.  A significant amount of progress has been made over the past few weeks and the end is approaching.
09-13-2019:  Recent, frequent, overnight rain has delayed the asphalt overlay operation on Grand Avenue.  The project is still on schedule and the Hunt Club Road median work has progressed quickly.  Pavement for the northbound left turn lane will be completed the week of the 16th as will the median surface.  The new median surface will incorporate a red brick look to add an aesthetic flair.  Hunt Club Road asphalt surface removal will take place the week of the 16th as will asphalt paving on Grand Avenue - both operations will utilize daily lane closures, so please be patient and watch for workers.  Concrete foundations for the new traffic signals have been progressing at all four corners as have light pole foundations throughout the project.  The next two weeks will focus on completing the asphalt paving on both roads.

08-28-2019:  Median work continues on Hunt Club Road as the contractor completes the old median removal, grading and stone base placement for the proposed medians; this will be followed by framing the new median curb and gutters.  This work is necessary to accommodate the construction of the final dual left turn lanes for both northbound and southbound Hunt Club Road.  The contractor completed the asphalt surface removal on Grand Avenue last week, but the all-day rain event on Monday added to the deterioration of the roadway surface.  This week, crews are performing asphalt repairs to Grand Avenue in preparation for asphalt paving.  Remember to please slow down and use caution while driving in the work zone.  Crews are doing their best to repair and maintain the driving surface prior to the holiday weekend.
08-22-2019:  Pavement widening for the new right turn lanes on Hunt Club Road and Grand Avenue is complete.  New traffic staging on southbound Hunt Club Road will utilize the new widening to accommodate the upcoming median work.  Daily temporary lane closures will still be utilized for the excavation of the existing medians on Hunt Club Road and the construction of the proposed median.  Nighttime work will begin tonight, August 22nd.  The contractor will focus on the resurfacing of Grand Avenue and performing the asphalt surface removal – please expect delays.  This work is being performed at night so as not to impact daytime and rush hour traffic.
08-12-2019:  Curb along north Hunt Club Road is ongoing and, following completion of the curb along the south section, pavement widening is anticipated to begin the week of August 19th.  Following asphalt placement on Hunt Club Road, surface removal on Grand Avenue will begin.  During surface removal, there will be times the contractor needs to reduce traffic to one lane for the safety of the motoring public.  Please be aware lane closures will only occur during off-peak hours (this includes nighttime operations).  Trucks will be entering/exiting the work zone regularly; please stay alert.  Don’t forget to check out the latest project photos!
08-06-2019:  Storm sewer road crossings for Hunt Club Road widening are complete.  There will be additional sewer crossings at a later date, but the current focus is aggregate placement in preparation for asphalt pavement to widen Hunt Club Road.  Once the north end of Hunt Club is complete, aggregate placement will shift south of Grand Avenue.  The median gaps on Grand Avenue are ready to be filled with concrete; that will be followed by removal of the asphalt surface on Grand Avenue.  This work will begin following the completion of Hunt Club Road asphalt widening.  Click here to view the latest project photos!

07-29-2019:  Mainline storm sewer installation along the west side of Hunt Club Road is complete.  Lateral road crossings begin this week - even though this work will be performed during off-peak traffic hours, delays are expected.  The pavement will first be saw-cut across Hunt Club Road in a few locations; then, the excavator will remove the pavement to connect the east side curb structures to the mainline storm sewer; lastly, crews will backfill the holes daily with asphalt.
Excavation to widen Hunt Club Road north of Grand Avenue is underway and the additional turn lane adjacent to Chick-fil-A can be seen.  After the excavation to the north is complete, excavation will switch to the west side of south Hunt Club Road.  Please continue to drive safely.  Click here to check out the latest project photos.
07-22-2019:  The majority of the concrete items (curbs, medians, etc.) on Grand Avenue are complete.  In a few weeks, crews will begin removing the Grand Avenue roadway pavement; crews will complete the intermediate layer of asphalt now instead of later in the year when availability and weather limit asphalt placement.  Storm sewer along the west side of Hunt Club Road north of Grand Avenue is the present focus and excavation to widen Hunt Club Road is next.
Sidewalk construction is underway and ‘Sidewalk Closed’ signs are posted to direct pedestrians to proper crossing locations.  Pedestrian access will be maintained either by concrete sidewalk or temporary aggregate path.  The project is currently on schedule to be complete by early November.  Please continue to drive safely and slow down in the work zone.
07-15-19:  The intersection island gaps on all four corners of Hunt Club Road and Grand Avenue have been filled with concrete.  Installation of the storm sewer along the west side of Grand Avenue began July 5th and is progressing rapidly.  Now that curb placement and base widening to reconfigure the Grand Avenue median west of the intersection is complete, the focus will be on the median east of Hunt Club Road.  Please continue to drive safely and watch for daily lane closures.  Click here to check out the latest photos!

06-27-19:  Temporary traffic signals have been installed and signal poles have been removed.  Concrete removal and preparation work continues; the Grand Avenue median west of Hunt Club Road is ready for concrete.  Next week, crews will begin filling the old intersection islands with concrete.  No work interfering with traffic is permitted between Wednesday, July 3 and Monday, July 8.  Have a happy and safe holiday!  Click here to check out project photos!
06-21-19:  Aggregate and concrete placement on Grand Avenue (west of Hunt Club) will begin soon as will storm sewer installation in the southwest corner of the intersection.  There will be a noticeable increase in trucking as aggregate, concrete and removal operations begin.  Once the temporary lighting and traffic signals are active, the large metal posts and mast arms will be removed and the new footprint of the intersection will be clear.  Please remember to drive slowly through the work zone; once all the work is complete, Lake County’s transportation system will be more efficient and safer for the public.
06-13-2019:  Advance traffic control and erosion control measures are in place.  Temporary light poles and traffic signals are in place and will be turned on next week – there will be delays once the signals are activated as it takes some adjustment time to achieve proper signal timing.  Currently, the daily lane closures will continue along the median and outside lanes on Grand Avenue; these lane closures will soon be seen on Hunt Club Road.
06-06-2019:  Construction begins Monday, June 10th; expect delays.  The focus will be topsoil removal and storm sewer installation in the southwest quadrant of the intersection while temporary lighting and traffic signals are installed.  Off-roadway activities behind the curb will begin daily at 6:00 AM.  When daily lane closures are required, work will be scheduled during off-peak hours to not interfere with rush hour traffic.  Please be aware of trucks entering/exiting the work zone; do not follow trucks too closely; watch for flaggers directing traffic.  The Pace Bus Route 565 stop at Hunt Club/Westbrook will be temporarily out of service beginning Friday, June 14th.  During construction, Pace will temporarily relocate the stop to the northwest corner of Gurnee Mills Circle/Westbrook.  Click here to view the temporary stop location flyer.

05-08-2019:  Safety improvements to the Hunt Club Road and Grand Avenue (IL 132) intersection will begin this summer.  Landmark Contractors, Inc. was the lowest bidder and they are anticipated to begin construction in mid-June.  Currently, ComEd is relocating two switch gear cabinets along the west side of Hunt Club; this work is necessary to facilitate adding a right turn lane for southbound Hunt Club to westbound Grand.  Please explore the site to see more information on the project.  You can also sign up for the project email notification list – just contact us.
